THE OWNERS
Patrice Murphy, MSPT, PCS is a pediatric certified
specialist in physical therapy. She is also certified in the Neurodevelopmental
Treatment
Approach to Cerebral Palsy. She originally came to Alabama from
Kentucky to develop physical therapy services in the Jefferson County School
System with the start of PL 94-142 (now IDEA) in 1977. She also joined, at that
time, the physical therapy faculty at the University at Alabama in Birmingham to
teach pediatric physical therapy, build contacts, and develop instructional
pediatric sites for PT students. She continues to teach doctoral students in
physical therapy in the areas of pediatric assessment and treatment, orthotics
and adaptive equipment and management. Since that time she has also been very
active at local, state and national levels in the physical therapy organization
and has been honored for her service. She presently sits on the Blue Cross Blue
Shield Advisory Committee. She is also a strong supporter of Special Olympics
and other community activities for the disabled. She continues to speak at
conferences presenting information to medical colleagues and parents/caretakers
about provision of services to children/students with disabilities.
Debbie Collins, PT, PCS is a Pediatric Certified
Specialist who graduated from the
University of Alabama in Birmingham with a
degree in physical therapy in 1977. She received a Fellowship grant from the
Sparks Center to train in the Jefferson County Schools and assist in the
implementation of PL 94-142. (now IDEA) and then began working for United
Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham. She is certified in the Neurodevelopmental Treatment Approach to Cerebral Palsy. She is also a Level 2
certified yoga instructor through YOGAFIT and has completed the YOGAFIT home
study program in YOGAFIT KIDS; in addition, she is certified in Yoga for Kids
and Intensive Therapeutic Yoga, also through YOGAFIT. Ms. Collins is a strong supporter of Special
Olympics and other community activities supporting the needs of the disabled. Ms. Collins is active in the state and national American Physical Therapy
Association.
DIRECTOR OF OT SERVICES
Kathy Early, MOTR/L received her degree in
occupational therapy and a Master’s degree in Allied Health Science from the
University of Alabama in Birmingham. She has completed certification in the Neurodevelopmental Treatment Approach to Cerebral Palsy and the SIPT
Certification Tract. She also completed Auburn University’s Cross Disciplinary
Early Intervention Training Program. As a practicing pediatric OT for 27 years,
she has extensive background in early intervention, preschool, and school system
services. She is a clinical instructor for OT programs in Alabama and
Mississippi. Kathy’s special interest in pediatrics includes
oral-motor/feeding, adaptive equipment, handwriting, and related assistive
technology. She is frequently consulted about legal issues affecting
school-based practice.
OUR STAFF
Pediatric Therapy Assoc, Inc. is fortunate to have highly
skilled and dedicated physical and occupational therapists who work across a
variety of settings. We currently employ 7 physical therapists and 7
occupational therapists. All are licensed through the state of Alabama and meet
or exceed state continuing education requirements.
