- Children with disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, and
Spina Bifida often have strength issues. Research has shown that physical
and occupational therapy programs with more intensive interventions
(increased number of visits in a short period) are more effective in
accomplishing goals.
-
- In preparing for this program we will assess each child individually and
will use input from the family and the child to develop measureable goals. We
will focus on increasing strength to facilitate functional mobility,
posture, balance, and overall endurance. The child's program will be
scheduled with the parents for 2-4 weeks, 4-5 days a week for 3-4 hours a
day. The child will participate in activities related to movement skills
such as rolling, crawling/creeping, walking, running, climbing stairs,
riding a bike, jumping, and self-help activities.
-
- If the child does not have skill abilities for a certain task, we will
assist him by adapting equipment or modifying the task. The intensity of the
program allows the child and therapist to have time to accomplish tasks and
meet goals.
Instructors will vary depending on the needs of the individual children.
